Here is a list of the of the processes which I use on all my logo designs:
1
Design Brief
The design brief is the first step and most important one in the design process. It is here the client can express all the relevant details that they want from the forthcoming logo design before it starts.
2
Research
It is vitally important to get to know the company your designing for. The design brief gives you half the picture of what the client is after, the personality, attitude and beliefs gives the other half.
3
Sketching
A simple back to basics pencil and paper is what I use here to sketch down any initial thoughts. The good thing about working this way is that it is quick to get down many different thought processes that the logo could take.
4
Reflection
I find it very helpful to take breaks from a project from time to time to let ideas develop and mature. This is also a good time to get some feedback on the direction I’m going from the client and my peers.
5
Rendering
Ideas are transferred onto a computer using software such as Adobe Illustrator. From here numerous colour and font variations can be tried out along side the design ideas.
6
Discuss
Sets of rendered design ideas can be easily sent back and forth to clients for their thoughts and feedback. I will send ideas in black and white, inverted and at various sizes so the client can get a feel of how it will look in its basic state.
7
Finish
Once the feedback from the client comes back I do the finishing touches and send the final .eps and .ai file formats as well as any other the client wants.
